Following Fractals

Demitasse at Attention, 2020 Photo by ERSwett
The demitasse
had been
wrapped in
newspaper in the basement of a
seaside cottage. It was time
for an adventure.

No longer
trapped in a box,
the demitasse played like
children in the water. I love how
objects out of context
come to life.

This one
cup & saucer,
particularly eager
to play, danced in the
early morning
light.

Perspective
changes everything -
not just what and how I see,
but also how I feel as a result of that
investigation. On this particular Indigenous
People's Day in Maine, following
fractals made me feel
very humble.

I wondered:
Maybe it's time for
those us for whom "our
cups have runneth over" to make
room for others and maybe even give back
what was never really ours? To do this, though, we'll
need to re-imagine our relationships to
everything and everyone,
including ourselves.

Lyn,
Who's wedding dress are you wearing? Loved the photos. Where is the missing 12th cup. I love that you liberated the china. I think my mother's china that rarely comes out of my cupboard needs liberating as well.

Sarah - - Happy to help liberate your mother's china with you - - it would look cool submerged on the edge of Occum Pond. Or lined up in a row on the edge of your lawn. I'd love to come do a photo shoot! Oh, and it's my sister's Cotillion dress that I also wore to a thing in NYC in 1984.

Hello Elizabeth! I love that you are part of a photography group and would be honored to serve as inspiration. Send me some images from the group if you're interested...maybe I can create a blog post about them. Such a fun way to keep the conversation going. evelynrswett@gmail.com.

Mary - - Thank you. It seems I'm exploring a 21st century form of 'woman's lib.' Not sure where it's going, but we'll see.

What a totally new juxtaposition- and how beautiful the water re-imagines those cups! Very eye catching and thought provoking, thanks’

Thank you for the reminder of the richness in our lives and the encouragement to share when our cups are full and run over. I think I shall dip my toes in the sand while the water is still in liquid form :)
