Welcome!
You're here. Let's get started.
Why a new deal for climate action at home?
Because these playbooks
are logically organized by topical themes
with weekly activities that focus
on the people, places and
things you love
most.
And because
these playbooks are all
about play and having fun while
caring for your home,
your land and
yourself.
Here's the deal.
I created these activities
because I love the play of light in
trees as much as on my home's heating system
and I wanted to share that
joy with you.
As a photographer
with a masters degrees in
business, I get as excited about the
geometry of a solar array as I do about the
amount of kWhs it has produced and
the number of dollars it has saved
my family over its lifetime.
Like I said,
these playbooks
are a 'Green New Deal'
not only because they are
practical and easy to access (pdfs),
but also because they go beyond light bulbs
recycling and ask you to pay close
attention to the people, places
and possessions you
love most.
Each playbook
contains eight activities
(one per week) as well as a glossary
of related terms, worksheets
for storing key data, and
places for personal
reflection.
Yes.
Personal.
Climate action is all
about you and your relationship
to the people, places and
things you love
most.
Each
Playbook
invites you to pay
attention, establish baselines,
practice habits, reflect
and repeat.
It's like how you
might manage your fitness
or finances. You need to know where you
are in order to make a logical plan
for achieving your
goals.
Oh, and
along the way,
you'll do some laundry,
measure electrical consumption,
eat less meat, count your clothes, find your
cozy place, and if you're feeling
brave, plant a small
garden. Smile.
Notice #1: Pay Attention. In other words, be mindful. That's not something we often hear about in the rush to save the planet. And #4: Reflect on Progress. Again, reflections and expressions of gratitude for showing up are not always part of the climate conversation. These practices are essential, though, if we are going to find joy in the process and experience new ways of being.
Feel Powerful. Know Your Truth
What’s so cool is that even with all the contradictions in our lives — and there are many — facing our own truths with honesty and directness invites creativity. There are those ‘who knew?’ and ‘aha’ moments all the time, even if you’ve been doing this for years. The goal is to ‘practice’ climate action in the same way you practice anything else, whether it’s yoga or your tennis game. And as with these activities, it’s more fun when you are in a group. When you purchase a playbook, you will automatically be added to an e-mail list (for this and only this). Each week you will receive an encouraging e-mail from me that may include links I think might be of interest or invitations to join others in national eco challenges.
Here's How they Work
Strategy:
Treat climate action
the same way you manage your
fitness and finances: Before you do anything,
establish your status quo. What is
your story and why do
you care about
it?

Along the way,
work with whatever tools
you have at hand and remember that even
when the river runs dry, there are
natural forms & structures
there to guide you.
Here's what's magical about these books:
they invite you to experience the convergence of creativity and climate action;
they help you find your energy truth and in the process, make you feel powerful;
they inspire joy and new ways of being.
